NSTRA National Officer UPDATE:  April 15, 2020

As shared previously, the five officers are monitoring the national COVID-19 pandemic and conferring regularly in an effort to provide you with information and support, as well as addressing the needs of the NSTRA organization in keeping with our fiduciary responsibilities.  

NSTRA National Officer UPDATE:  April 15, 2020

  • The 2020 UKC Performance Trial is accepting entries.  However, the date and location of this trial may change.  We will continue to monitor each week and decide during the 4th week in April.
  • The Officers and Board of Directors shall meet on April 22, 2020, by Zoom teleconference/videoconference/webcast.  All Region Presidents are expected to attend.  Critical decisions relative to summer and fall trials schedules will be discussed.

By resolution of the National Officers’, it was determined that: 

WHEREAS, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact many communities and members of NSTRA; and

WHEREAS, multiple regions may not be able to hold regional elimination trials; and

WHEREAS, there may be significant impact on members’ ability to enter the 2020 National Dog of the Year trial under existing criteria; and

WHEREAS, the National Officers are imbued with powers and authority to make decisions under emergent circumstances; and 

THEREFORE, for the purposes of normalizing operations to the extent possible and allow for some level of future planning, be it resolved that:

  • Regardless of whether or not a region postpones, reschedules, or cancels a 2020 regional elimination trial, Regional elimination points shall not be counted in the 2020 Performance Award criteria.  (this is only for 2020)
  • If a region postpones or changes the date on which a regional elimination trial is held or cancels holding a regional elimination trial for 2020, regardless of the decision made by membership in 2019, regions may fill the quota of dogs eligible to enter 2020 DOY trial as follows:
    • Order of finish at the regional elimination trial, if held.
    • Order of high-point dogs in a region, or
    • Alternating order of finish at regional elimination and high-point.
  • Regional elimination trials may be held less than 45 days prior to the start of 2020 DOY (October 28), provided that all paperwork and other information required to compute entries for DOY is received in the National Office no later than October 5, 2020; and The revised entry deadline for DOY 2020 is October 5, 2020 – NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • 2020 Regional elimination trials, regardless of the date held, will award open placements points that may be counted toward Hall of Fame criteria.
  • The new trial season, 2020-2021, shall begin effective June 1, 2020, for the purpose of calculating open points toward qualifying criteria of the  2021 Performance Award .  
  • Calculations for and determination of Region High Point dogs in 2020 shall be at the discretion and decision of region members, board, and officers.

In addition, the officers continues the previous decisions as follows:

  • NSTRA will continue to sanction weekend trials and regional elimination trials.
  • NSTRA National Officers are not directing regions as to how to proceed with weekend trials and regional eliminations.  It is up to each trial chairman, local club, region president and/or region board of directors to make that determination in compliance with your specific state and/or federal guidelines.
  • NSTRA’s 30 day notice requirement for changes to the trial schedule may be relaxed on a case-by-case basis; this does NOT apply to the 30-day notice requirement for judging seminars.
  • NSTRA Officers are available for counsel and discussion on a trial-by-trial basis.
  • IF you cancel, move, postpone, or reschedule any trials, make sure to e-mail the national office as soon as possible so changes are updated to the website in a timely manner.
